About me

Hi, I am Guus Fölkel - designer, engineer, artist.

My journey into speaker design began not just with a passion for sound, but with a deep connection to music itself. Music has always been the backdrop to my life - a source of joy, depth, understanding and energy. Over time, I realised I wanted to build the instruments that bring it to life and look as good as they sound.

To ensure the highest level of precision and finish, I combine modern digital fabrication techniques — like CNC machining - with traditional hand tools rooted in both European and Japanese woodworking traditions. This hybrid approach allows me to honor the grain and character of each piece of wood while achieving acoustic performance that’s accurate, intentional, and repeatable.

Each speaker is constructed and finished by hand in my workshop nestled deep in the mountains of northern Portugal, surrounded by native forests. This isn’t just a place I live - it’s where my connection to the natural world informs every decision I make. I choose solid wood not only for its sonic properties, but for its organic beauty, sustainability, and the sense of grounding it brings to every piece I create.

But these speakers are more than engineered products. They are personal. They reflect a belief in lasting quality, in repairable design, and in the power of natural materials to enhance both sound and space. No plastic. No veneer. Just honest craftsmanship, built to last.

If you care deeply about music, about design with integrity, and about products that feel as good as they sound — I think we’ll get along just fine.

My mission

With Fölkel Audio I want to offer people the best audiovisual expierence possible. An let them enjoy it for the rest of their lives. By making wooden speakers that have character and soul, I believe there to be more to the listening experience than just sound. Something to elevate your space, your experience, day in day out.

My vision

We are living in an age where we have to start acting responsibly towards our environment. Unfortunately I can not solve this on my own. However, by setting an example in making products that are made from natural materials, will last long, are repairable and recyclable, I am trying to inspire other to do this also. Assuming this, I foresee a future in which we can thrive in harmony with the rest of nature on our planet.
